About Allahabad:

Allahabad, Illahabad, or also known as Prayag, is a city situated in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh. It is also the administration center of the Allahabad District. In India, it is the thirty-sixth most populous state in India. Prayag-the city's original name is derived from the position of the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Sarasvati. The city being the second oldest in India, plays a central role in the Hindu scriptures. Allahabad is also home to several research institutions, colleges, state, and central government. It is also one of the most popular pilgrim destination in India. More popularly known for the Kumbh Mela- the largest religious fair for Hindus. The city hosts several other cultural and sporting events. It is also well connected to many Indian cities like Mumbai and Delhi via regular Allahabad flights. Being one of the oldest cities surviving; it is home to many tourist attractions like Allahabad Fort, Ganga Gallery, Patalpuri Temple, and Sangam. Allahabad Airport is also known as Bamrauli Airport. It is situated in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh at a distance of about 12km from the center of the city. It is in operations for domestic flights. Other airports which are in operation in close proximity are Kanpur, Varanasi and Lucknow. The only operational airline carrier is Air India Regional; it operates 2 direct flight. There are daily flights to Delhi; whereas on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday to Mumbai. The airport was initially built in the year 1919 and it served as an International airport till the year 1946; with direct flights to London till the year 1932. Being a civil enclave the airport is managed by the Airports Authority of India. Cheap air tickets are offered between the two destinations.
